GREEN FEATURES AT RUSSELL HALL
Life at Russell Hall is among the most environmentally efficient in the nation, with a LEED Gold level certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. This means your home or office will utilize fewer resources than other building options, helping you to minimize your impact on the environment.
Energy Usage
35% renewable energy was purchased as part of Russell Hall’s design to offset energy used in the building. All apartments feature Energy Star appliances throughout, which cut utility costs and save environmental resources.
Efficient Lighting
T8 lighting consumes less energy and lasts longer than standard options. Most fixtures use LED bulbs, providing more adaptive light while reducing energy costs. Large windows maximize natural light as well, enhancing health and productivity.
Indoor Air Quality
Low-VOC carpet, adhesives, sealants and paints and Green Seal cleaning products keep hazardous chemicals out of the air you breathe at Russell Hall. Smoke-free policies throughout the building also prevent dangerous second-hand cigarette smoke.
Responsible Sourcing
During construction, teams targeted 95% diversion of construction waste from landfills. About 15% of materials were produced locally, helping to sustain the local economy, with about 10% containing recycled content. A tenant recycling program is also in place to minimize ongoing waste.
Transportation Options
Numerous bus and light rail options nearby make it easy to commute or travel using public transportation, helping to minimize exhaust emissions. Bicycle storage is available in the building, in addition to vanpool parking and electric vehicle charging stations.
Water Usage
Russell Hall’s green roof retains storm water in the plantings and dirt, reducing the amount of potable water used for irrigation and minimizes runoff pollution into Elliott Bay. Waterless urinals, dual flush toilets and water-efficient shower heads also help to minimize potable water use.
SHOP & EAT
The commercial spaces at Russell Hall feature two of the U-District’s favorite dining spots. Just head down the elevator from your apartment or office to meet friends or pick up quick and easy to-go orders!
